Maybe you haven't heard, but the Ugandan newspaper ironically called "Rolling Stone", posted a list of 100 most important homosexuals in that country and incited people to go and "hang them." The writer accused homosexuals in the country of trying to recruit kids to homosexuality, and threatening the "moral frabic" of the country, sounds familiar? Within its content, the publication published their names, their addresses and even their phone numbers so people could find them and kill them. This disgusting publication pretty much sums up the ignorance and intolerance of an uneducated society overdosed on religion thanks to the wonderful work of missionaries around the world. One of those missionaries who's been known to have great influence in Uganda and other African countries, is the best-selling author of a certain book which is probably in 95% of bookshelves in Christian houses, churches and libraries, none other than Rick Warren, author of the book; A Purpose Driven Lie...I mean, Life.
Why even include Rick Warren here?, you are not suggesting Mr. Warren alone is to blame for this bigotry and intolerance towards homosexuals in Uganda, or are you? Not necessarily, but the man's influence in Uganda is quite known, an influence Rick would no doubt be bragging about IF these uneducated religious morons wouldn't have taken his words to the extreme causing his work in Uganda to back fire on him, so much in fact he has tried distance himself from Uganda's leaders, even saying that his influence was exaggerated by the media. However, the Anglican pastor of Zambia told a different story, reporting that Warren had immense influence over high ranking leaders and has eaten with them, has met the first lady Janet Musevani and is aware of everything that goes on. But Warren's influence is not on trial here, having influence is not a crime, but his message is. This is a vivid example of what happens when you mix religion with the uneducated and poor. Most of them are not very well educated and tend to take superstition more seriously. They are poor and have great risks of dying young for lack of medical care, so they tend to cling to their religion much more strongly, which makes them much more dependent on it. They follow the religion the "white, rich and superior" man taught them to the letter, not only in hopes that their suffering will end, but also that they'll one day go to heaven, where they won't have to worry about whether or not they'll eat tomorrow.

In my opinion, giving money to a Christian charity for Africa is the equivalent of flushing it down the toilet. I don't know how much of that money goes to food and medicine (which is what they need the most), but you bet most of that money goes to Bibles, flying missionaries there so they can preach them about the Bible and building churches so they can teach the Bible. None of that saves a child's life, none of that feeds a child, none of that educates a child for a better future, it just pollutes their mind with fairy-tales, threats of hell-fire and horrible verses like; "Those who lay with a man as with a woman shall be put to death." This can only be justified by the belief that the word of the lord is better than food, because it magically refreshes the spirit and protects you from Satan, and blah, blah, blah. See how belief can become dangerous? They think a child is better off with a Bible on his hands than with a tasty sandwich. We are letting Christians decide for uneducated Africans what they need the most. I don't deny the great work some Christian charities have done for Africa, but they have also wasted money and time forcing religion down their throat, and this is the result.

When Mr. Warren preached in Uganda about how man on man was a "no, no", which verse do you think he used to demonstrate God was against it? As a preacher, aren't you supposed to base your teachings on the Bible? and if he didn't, is he THAT embarrassed of his own "holy" book? If God is against it, and homosexuality is an abomination and it clearly states there they should be put to death, why the hell are we not doing it? Is a simple logic that can be easily drawn, and Rick Warren hasn't done enough to prevent them from arriving to that dangerous conclusion. He gave them the book that specifically says these words, he taught them God was against it and it even made him angry. He preached and continues to preach gays are deserving of eternal fire in hell for the crime of being gay, is this not worst? Why Warren took so damn long to denounce the Bill politicians tried to push to punish homosexuals with the death penalty? I'm pretty sure Warren wouldn't have done or said a thing had it not been for the pressure put on him by the media and other vocal groups. His reason for taking so long?...he didn't want to interrupt with the politics of another country, which is an incredibly lame excuse. This is not a politics issue, Rick, THIS IS A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE, and if you cared about your fellow human beings as much as you care about selling your book with all your religious crap in it, you would have used every bit of influence you had to bring them to their senses. A lame video just won't cut it.

Gays in Uganda are horribly persecuted. Some of them are attacked, others have been imprisoned. To me it is inexcusable that Warren has done NOTHING to bring these people to their senses. He doesn't seem to understand (or care) about how all the religious hate-speech against homosexuals could have incited the violence gay people of the country now have to suffer. If I were him and I had his influence, I would fly to Uganda and do everything in my power to at least TRY to convince them to stop this non-sense. But of course, I'd do it because I care about my fellow human beings, doesn't matter whether they are gay, black, white, Christian, Muslim, atheist, straight, bi-sexual,etc...

So, it is with great dishonor that I thank Rick Warren for all the horrible killings, tortures, lives of shame and obscurity our fellow human beings will have to suffer as a direct result of his anti-gay propaganda. I think it's time for atheists, agnostics, secularists, rational Christians, rational Muslims, to be more outspoken against religious hate-speech against homosexuals and how it incites hate and violence. My humble suggestion is that every news report that comes out about discrimination against homosexuals, we put it side by side with the image of an anti-gay pastor. MAYBE this will bring some much needed SHAME to their face. If Rick wants to call Uganda "a purpose driven nation", we'll call every homosexual death "a purpose driven murder."

"Muslims killed us on 9/11"

Alright, this is gonna be a short blog commenting on a recent incident involving Bill O'Reilly on the show, The View. It has received quite a lot of news coverage and has generated a bit of controversy. Personally, I think everyone's overreacting, just like Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar. You know it's not going to end well when one of the most conservative "news" show host goes down to visit a bunch of liberal women on their period, oh right!,they are too old for that. Correction! a bunch of liberal women who miss having their period! Anyways, everything was going modestly well, until Bill said the M word!!

This is what Bill O'Reilly said, and I quote;"Muslims killed us on 9/11", which he later corrected by saying; "Radical/Extremist Muslims killed us on 9/11". The latter statement was more accurate, but the first one was not that far off. I mean, I'm not one to paint a whole group of people with one broad brush, but the facts are the facts, and the Muslim religion did have A LOT to do with the rationale behind 9/11. Most liberals always try to make that distinction between Muslims extremists and moderates, they wanna sound "politically correct", but is there really any distinction between those two groups?

I'm forced to say, OF COURSE THERE IS, and the distinction is the key to understanding why we are having this communication problem. The distinction between moderate Muslims and extremists lies, not on the religion, but on their level of education and their ability to think rationally. Moderate Muslims read all the horrible verses in the Qu'ran, verses that directly command them to go and kill "infidels" in order to take over the world, and they understand that THERE'S NO WAY a good and loving God would ever write those words. So, what do they do? they give up their religion? NO! They go in circles around these verses trying to justify it while keeping their precious religion. But in order to come to that conclusion, they need a level of education to develop an ability to think RATIONALLY. In Muslim countries, where the information is pretty controlled by the Muslim governments, and the center of education is the religion itself, extremists are more likely to emerge from these conditions where rational and critical thinking is, not only hindered, but also punished! In Western Civilizations and 21st century societies, where the government has little or no control of the information, the education encourages developing and using rational and critical thinking, moderate Muslims are more likely to emerge.

The main difference is the environment in which the Muslim grows up in. But let's stop using the word "Muslim", and use the word Christian, for example, is the exact same issue. I was a fundamentalist Christian for many years myself, but as soon as I started thinking rationally and critically, I became more and more moderate until I gave the religion up. We are ALL vulnerable to be an extremist of some religion or ideology under these extreme conditions, whether you're Muslim or Christian or Mormon, etc... The main difference is, most Christians grow up in 21st century societies, and they are less likely to follow every letter and every word of their book. Most Muslims, on the other hand, grow in societies that are still stuck in the Dark Ages, so they are more likely to follow their book and their religious leader without question.This is the real difference between a moderate Muslim and an extremist, and it's THE SAME difference between a fundamentalist Christian and a moderate Christian.

When I say Bill O'Reilly is right what I mean is, the verses that inspired the 9/11 hijackers to do what they did ARE in the Qu'ran, and they ARE tenants of their religion. If it were the case that moderate Muslims were the ones who follow their book to the letter, and extremists the ones making excuses and using verses to justify their deeds, I would call O'Reilly a bigot and disagree with him, just like most of the time, but SADLY that's NOT the case. Moderate Muslims are, basically, the same as Christians Apologists. They lie to themselves and to others in order to keep their religion despite the obvious fact that their book INCITES violence against non-Muslims. It might not be that "Muslims" killed us on 9/11, BUT Islam did! just like Christianity killed innocent women accused of being witches, motivates and justifies hatred and violence towards homosexuals and exploded that abortion clinic.

Another thing I see is causing this miscommunication is that the word "Muslim" has become synonymous with "Arab". I think when we fail to make that distinction, the conversation is derailed from criticism of beliefs and ideology of a group of people and the influence it has on their actions, to the color of their skin and the clothes they wear. I think that, when you're talking to the American public, a public that is generally ignorant to other cultures, this distinction MUST BE made in order to keep the debate on the right track. When I criticized Islam, I'm not criticizing Arabs, and I'm not saying they are all terrorists, I'm saying that the beliefs Muslims hold have a tendency to incite VIOLENCE and HATRED, which is the same I would say for Christianity and pretty much every religion. When we make this distinction clear, we are free to keep race out of the equation, and have an honest and rational discussion about IDEAS and whether they are good or bad for us.

This is the reason I think Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar walked off the stage. I would have done the same if O'Reilly had said; "Arabs killed us on 9/11", but that's not what he said, he said; "MUSLIMS killed us on 9/11", is NOT about RACE, is about BELIEFS and IDEAS. Is like what Martin Luther King said; "not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character", and beliefs (SPECIALLY religious beliefs) has a remarkable influence on who we are and how we choose to act in certain situations. It is an understatement that not ALL Muslims believe the same things, or act the same way, or agree on the interpretations of certain verses, but they do share some core beliefs. How strongly they believe it, and to what extend they let these beliefs influence their actions, are the key distinctions here, which are mostly determined by their ability to think rationally and critically and the environment they grew up in.

As always, this is just my opinion. I wish I was able to express it as clearly as possible. I just wish that, someday, we all share the belief that we are ALL HUMANS, despite our differences, and therefore recognize we all deserve the same rights and the same respect.

If you're an atheist....

In this blog I'll be listing the advantages of being an atheist. I realize not all atheists think the same way, so this will be MY list of what new possibilities opened for me and which important realizations came to me after deciding to become an atheist. It doesn't have to be the same for everybody, that's why this blog will be an invitation for people to submit their own "if you're an atheist...." ideas.

This is my list:

If you are an atheist, you don't have to submit yourself to unquestionable authorities that brand their mandates as "orders from god."

If you are an atheist, you are free to think about the world and see it in thousands of different perspectives, and not be bounded by an imposed world-view which threatens you with eternal torture if you ever dare to question it.

If you are an atheist, you don't have to adhere to silly fairytales to explain the world around you. You are free to learn and explore the scientific answers to the most important questions, and equip yourself with knowledge that will help you work more effectively in the reality we are all bounded to.

If you are an atheist, you don't have to scare your kids and traumatize them with HELL.

If you are an atheist, you are free to enjoy all sorts of art, whether it be; music, books, movies, paintings, poems, novels, television , etc....without having to refrain from them because they are, in some way, "linked to Satan." Yes, you can watch Harry Potter now.

If you are an atheist, you have MUCH better things to do with your time than shoving your religion down everyone's throat, trying to keep adolescent boys from masturbating and trying to incite as much hate and prejudice against homosexuals as possible, so that then gays will commit suicide, so that then you can use those statistics as proof that homosexuality is "unhealthy."

If you are an atheist, you don't believe the world is gonna end soon, so you have more than enough reasons to take care of our planet for the sake of future generations, and create a better world for them. In other words; Jesus is NOT coming, so let's do something about Global Warming.

If you are an atheist, you understand the risks of taking things on faith. You examine claims based on the evidence offered, and you reject them if they don't meet their burden of proof.

If you are an atheist, you don't believe God's watching out for you, so you go to the doctor more often, check the weather reports before going on a trip, make budget plans to make sure you don't spend more than you have, check your car's breaks and tires regularly and make absolutely sure you don't leave things of great importance to chance, like your kids future.

If you are an atheist, you do good things for goodness's sake, and not for some reward, or to avoid a certain punishment.

If you are an atheist, you understand that not everything's in black and white, there are lots of gray areas. There's no reason to demonize the other side. We are able to have a rational debate with the opposition without attributing their way of thinking to evil mystical creatures.

If you are an atheist, you understand that there is no such thing as an absolute truth and, therefore, you don't believe anyone has special access to it. You understand that unquestionable authorities DO NOT exist, that EVERYTHING should be subject to questioning and that no authority can forbid you from doing so. You are free to recognize that we are all FLAWED human beings trying to get a grasp of the world, and that NO ONE is in a privileged place to learn the truth.

If you are an atheist, you don't think the Pope, or any of the bishops involved in the child abuse scandal, has a "get out of jail free-card" for being in the V.I.P. section of their invisible imaginary friend in the sky. Therefore, you think that the Pope and the church leadership involved in the scandal should be trialed for, not only have known of the abuse cases and done nothing, but also for doing the best they could to cover it up, and that they should be sent to jail if found guilty.

If you are an atheist, the ONLY reason you'll behead a person for drawing a cartoon of someone you admire is if you are bat-shit crazy.

If you are an atheist, you'll at least have much better reasons to oppose legislation to stop Global Warming than YAHWEH's promise to Noah in Genesis that he would never destroy the Earth with water again.

If you are an atheist, you won't have a world-view so weak that it feels threatened by Harry Potter and Avatar.

If you are an atheist, you can let go of the GUILT. You don't believe Jesus sacrificed himself for you, you don't believe you had any part in it and you don't believe his blood magically saved you from a certain doom (which is ironically the result of the system he himself set in place). You can rest all day on Sundays, you can brush your teeth and go straight to bed, you can have safe sex with your girlfriend/boyfriend if you choose to, all of this without feeling guilty.

If you are an atheist, you understand that this life is the only one we have. This will give you a better sense of how incredibly valuable yours and others people's life really is. You will feel motivated to live life to the fullest, live everyday as if it was the last, and leave a legacy for generations to come.

If you are an atheist, you don't believe in god's miracles, so if you or a loved one is diagnosed with a terminal disease, you understand your/his life is close to an end. So, instead of wasting time praying or making "deals with God" so he will save you, you'll enjoy your last days on Earth as best as you can, and be grateful for the opportunity to experience the world and explore its mysteries.

Interesting Debates: Ray Comfort Vs. Bruce the Atheist

Ray Comfort and...a guy named Bruce?... had a little street debate on September 11. This guy, Bruce, an atheist who owns a site called Back Yard Skeptics, pretty much OWNED Ray Comfort throughout the entire debate. Ray had a few cheap shots here and there, being as experienced in public speaking as he is, but Bruce moped the floor with him to the point where I wonder if Comfort really believes what he believes or is just fucking with us. Because I think it isn't possible for Ray's mind NOT to realize there's something wrong with his own point of view when he's shown so clearly how his logic, or rather LACK of logic, fails, but keeps arguing and even changes the subject when he's close to defeat. To me, Ray is faking, he's just trying to make ends meet, and by the looks of it, he's getting a lot of money. After all, evangelism is a marketing business now and, like with every other marketing strategy, if you wanna sell your product, you gotta know how to lie. Click "Read More" to watch the debate.

Atheist Youtuber in trouble for burning the Qu'ran

The title says most of the interesting bits of the news. YouTuber and atheist, casewithscience, was featured in a number of news shows along with his video where he appears smoking both, the Bible and the Qu'ran. Unfortunately for all of us, the controversial video went down with his account when he closed it for yet to be revealed reasons. It is unknown whether casewithscience, whose real name is Alex Stewart, has received death threats from Muslims leading him to close his channel, but what has been known is that he has been suspended from his work at some university. Incredible the power that burning a simple book has on people. Everyone's running scared pissing their pants, afraid that some crazy Muslim will blow them up. Well, if they are so afraid, at least let the real brave citizens exercise their rights, while the cowards hide in their bomb shelters.

That's what this is all about isn't? Freedom of speech, which is, for a lack of a better analogy, the Godzilla of the Muslim world. They simply can't tolerate the fact that there are people half way around the world, yes, people!, like you and me, who have a right to burn a copy of their book, PREPOSTEROUS! How dare they be born in a country with such rights? when we are stuck here watching shitty cartoons! Anyways, certain people, specially from the Muslim side, are claiming that Stewart only wanted to offend the religion. That's false. The clear objective of the video was to make a point that people get worked up for stupid things. It doesn't matter to me that you think the Qu'ran is the revealed work of God. To me, that book is just like any other book, only that this one, just like the Bible, contains horrible passages inciting violence and genocide. So, what if I burn it? it's not my religion or my beliefs, and I certainly could care less about the book.

The funny thing is that Stewart's video is just (or was) out there on YouTube, you don't have to watch the video, you don't have to be offended by it. If you know what the video is about, and you know it's insulting to you, then simply don't watch it! Is the idea that there are people out there that don't give a crap about your religion too much to bare? In my opinion, the Muslims that get offended by this simply can't seem to be able to live in a world with people who don't think Islam is anything but just another religion with just another holy book. They are just intolerant, and would like to see people who disrespect their religion pay. Otherwise, they would understand that, for some people, Islam doesn't mean the same to them and are therefore free to criticize it and make whatever statement they want, however they wanna make it. In my opinion, one of the behind-the-curtain reasons why religious people are so sensitive about their religion it's precisely because there's no evidence to support their faith, they fill that void by acting, to the best of their ability, as if the religion was true.However, it doesn't stop there, they want EVERYONE acting as if their religion was true. After all, if their religion is really God's only truth, everyone would treat it with a kind of respect they wouldn't treat anything else with. They DEMAND this "respect" from us, knowing we wouldn't otherwise give it, because not respecting it interrupts with their delusion that their religion is god's truth. This wouldn't happen if they had concrete evidence for the truths of their religion. Their case is so weak it can't even take the slightest criticism. The degree of how far they are willing to take their little act depends on how much they depend on their religion being true. That's why some Muslims and Christians don't really give a fuck, but others can become INCREDIBLY aggressive. The latter group will ever threaten with death those who don't respect it. Funny how their delusions always comes at some expense, huh?

I watched Stewart's video the night before it was removed and the news exploded, and let me just say the video is nothing special. It might be funny to some, but for me, it wasn't THAT funny. However, he made his point, burning a book is nothing out of this world. The Earth won't explode, the ideas of the religion won't be valued less (unless, in this case, they are already worth nothing) by its followers, is just a man exercising his rights. You know what?, if you are a Muslim or a Christian, and are offended that Stewart burnt your book, here's what you can do. Pick up a copy of The God Delusion, or the atheistic book of your choice, and BURN IT. Burn as many as you want. Publish the videos on YouTube, I don't care. See if you lose your jobs because of it, see if you are forced to close your YouTube channel, see if we care. My copy of TGD is safely in my bookshelf (inside my hard drive) and its ideas are in my head. Just like your copy of the Bible and the Qu'ran is safely in your bookshelf (or collecting dust in the attic) and its ideas are also safely in your head. Stewart burning a page of a copy of your holy book DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING. There's no reason to feel offended, there's no harm being done, IT'S JUST A FUCKING BOOK.

I encourage atheists AND believers in Free Speech on Youtube to support Casewithscience. His videos were really good, and he PWNED TruthfulChristian so many times I had lost count. He will be missed, I hope he manages to return. On a side note another Youtuber by the name of Damaxman has announced he'll be burning both the Bible and Qu'ran in an upcoming video in support of Casewithscience. We'll see how that goes.

Resolución 107 es INCONSTITUCIONAL

En mi país, Puerto Rico, se ha levantado nuevamente un debate sobre matrimonios del mismo sexo. La derecha religiosa del país ha lanzado, por segunda ocasión en los pasados años, un atentado en contra de los derechos de una gran parte de la población, y de nuestra gran Constitución. Para los que no lo sepan, Puerto Rico es un territorio de la nación americana, y como territorio de dicha nación, estamos bajo el dominio de su Constitución. Quiere decir que TODAS las leyes federales que aplican en EE.UU, aplican también para Puerto Rico. Nuestro país tiene también su propia constitución que fue escrita en base a la Constitución norteamericana, y provee y protege los mismos derechos en su Carta de Derechos. Nuestra Constitución, así como la Constitución americana, es un brillante y ejemplar ejemplo de la superioridad de las civilizaciones Occidentales. Sin embargo, las mentalidades retrógradas y teocráticas siguen acechando contra nuestras libertades. Apoyándose en sus creencias privadas para intentar imponer leyes que atentan contra la esencia misma de nuestra Constitución.

Cada vez más me voy dando cuenta que la derecha religiosa de este país ha perdido la verguenza, o más bien nunca la ha tenido. Cada vez más se demuestra que el cristianismo y sus doctrinas y dogmas totalitarias son INCOMPATIBLES con las Civilización Occidental. Dónde no importa que creas que tienes a dios de tu lado, las leyes se establecen en bases racionales, no en base a revelaciones privadas. Dónde todo es cuestionable y discutible, no existen las autoridades incuestionables, somos libres para pensar y expresar ideas, sin temor a castigos eternos. Dónde nuestros derechos no dependen de la opinión manipulable de las mayorías, sino del reconocimiento de nuestra humanidad, i.e. que todos somos humanos, que todos somos iguales, y el que algunos digan tener una línea directa para hablar con dios no los hace más ni menos que todos los demás.

Sin embargo, como siempre, los políticos corruptos del país, que venderían su propia alma y la esencia misma de la Constitución si eso los ayudara a ganar elecciones, son una vez más las marionetas por preferencia de la derecha religiosa del país para llevar a cabo su agenda de odio y prejuicio en contra de la comunidad homosexual. El pasado lunes, en el evento anual del pastor Jorge Rachke, "Clamor a Dios", se levantaron voces de odio, discriminación e intolerancia como nunca se ha visto en la historia de nuestro país. Pastor tras pastor, incluyendo un NIÑO de apenas 7-12 años que ni siquiera ha tenido la oportunidad de desarrollar su mentalidad, fueron los encargados de llevar a cabo este circo en el que prácticamente incluía la comunidad homosexual en el mismo grupo que los drogadictos, los violadores de niños, los abusadores de mujeres, etc... El mensaje central es que hay una crisis moral en el país, y los homosexuales tienen parte de la culpa. Estas conexiones entre homosexuales y la violencia en el país son asunciones tácitas. Como siempre, nunca se explica la relación. Por supuesto, cuando abandonas la realidad, no hay necesidad de basar argumentos en bases racionales.

¿La solución a la crisis moral del país según un gran sector de la derecha religiosa del país?, prohibir las relaciones homosexuales elevando a rango Constitucional el matrimonio entre parejas heterosexuales. La derecha religiosa del país con esto espera que se semente en el gobierno y de ahí se implemente y se propague la idea de que los homosexuales son inmorales, y que deberían ser tratados diferente, no con los mismos derechos. ¿La base para ésta resolución? completamente religiosa, cosa que viola directa y desvergonzadamente la separación de iglesia y estado explícitamente instituida en la Sección 3 de la Carta de Derechos.

La resolución fue apoyada por 28 representantes. Yo quisiera tener una lista de estos 28 representantes para incluirlos en una lista negra, porque aparentemente estos individuos ni se han leído nuestra Constitución. La marioneta que lidera dicha resolución es el RepresentanteNorman Ramírez. La misma propone que se lleve a cabo una elección en la que el pueblo decida si dicha resolución pasa a ley. La resolución ya ha recibido el rechazo de varios representantes, incluyendo la representante por el PNP (Partido Nuevo Progresista) Albita Rivera, que tilda a los 28 representantes de hipócritas, y atribuyó la presentación de la iniciativa a presiones de los sectores religiosos fundamentalistas. No nos lo tiene que decir, señora Representante, ya lo sabemos. Lo cierto es que la derecha religiosa del país está observando lo que está pasando alrededor del mundo, incluyendo Estados Unidos. En Argentina y en México por fin se reconoció el derecho de los homosexuales a casarse, y en Estados Unidos se aprobó en Vermont y en Maine. Como bien ya se ha observado por los defensores de la igualdad de derechos en EE.UU, la derecha religiosa de este país y de EE.UU simplemente busca meter sus creencias dogmáticas e intolerantes en la Constitución para que sea más difícil que se cambien en un futuro. Es obvio que la opinión pública está cambiando. Es obvio que cada año se da un paso significativo en pro de los derechos humanos de los homosexuales. La derecha religiosa simplemente está DESESPERADA para meter sus creencias en la Constitución mientras tienen el apoyo de la mayoría.

Algunos lo apoyan porque simplemente odian a los homosexuales. Otros lo hacen porque se dejan llevar por las campañas de intolerancia, prejuicio, mentiras y miedos irracionales infundados por la derecha religiosa. Muchos de ellos son una combinación de ambas. Son muy inteligentes al apelar al pueblo para que le cumpla sus caprichos, porque saben que si se van a la corte, donde tienen que probar sus supuestos argumentos, donde el "porque yo lo digo y soy pastor y dios me habla" no es suficiente, donde los argumentos REQUIEREN base racional y no vagas asunciones, donde la evidencia es puesta a los más rigurosos cuestionamientos y examinaciones, ¡allí no tienen oportunidad alguna! Mientras tanto, la opinión pública es BIEN fácil de manipular. Este capricho de la derecha religiosa, de ser aprobado, le costará al pueblo 6 MILLONES. Con la crisis fiscal que tenemos en el país, ¿vamos a gastar 6 MILLONES para conformar a estos individuos? Que, de todas formas, de pasar dicha ley y ser aprobada por la mayoría, será declarada INCONSTITUCIONAL como ya ocurrió en California. Está claro que la derecha religiosa NO RESPETA la Constitución y cree estar por encima de ella, si tienen LOS COJONES de presentar este chiste de resolución. ¡¡¿No tienen verguenza?!!

No necesitamos esperar a que la resolución 107 pase para ver lo que pasará. Podemos mirar el increíblemente similar caso de la Proposición 8 en California, el cual propone exactamente lo mismo que la resolución 107, fue aprobada por la mayoría el 8 de Noviembre de 2008, y fue declarada inconstitucional en Agosto de 2010. ¿Porqué fue declarada inconstitucional?

La Proposición 8 fue denominada INCONSTITUCIONAL porque viola ambas clausulas; Debido Proceso y ley de Igual de Protección.

¿Qué es la clausula de “Due Process”?

Hay dos clausulas de "Due process" o debido proceso. Una en la quinta enmienda y otra en la decimocuarta enmienda.

La que se encuentra en la 5ta enmienda aplica al gobierno federal, mientras que la de la decimocuarta enmienda aplica al gobierno estatal y a sus sub-divisiones políticas. (Incluye Puerto Rico)

La clausula del Due Process protege contra cualquier acción gubernamental arbitraria que niegue el derecho de la persona a la vida, la libertad y/o propiedad.

“Ningún estado privará una persona de su vida, libertad, o propiedad, sin el debido proceso de ley.” ---5ta enmienda de la Constitución de los EE.UU

Esta enmienda prohíbe que el estado imponga una ley que limite la libertad del individuo para ejercitar sus derechos fundamentales limita su libertad.

¿Porqué Prop 8 viola la clausula de Debido Proceso?

Primero hay que reconocer que el derecho al matrimonio es un derecho fundamental:

“La libertad de casarse es reconocida como un derecho fundamental y está protegido por la clausula de Debido Proceso de Ley.” -- Juez Walker (Juez que declaró Prop 8 inconstitucional)

Cuando una ley es retada en corte en base a la alegación de que dicha ley viola la clausula “Due Process”, la corta ejerce una prueba denominada “Prueba de Escrutinio Estricto” para determinar si en efecto la ley en cuestión viola dicha clausula.

Bajo este caso la ley pasará la prueba SOLO SI se demuestra que la ley es necesaria para lograr un interés apremiante del estado. En otras palabras, los proponentes de la ley en cuestión tienen que demostrar en la corte que dicha ley es necesaria para lograr tal interés apremiante del gobierno.

Los proponentes de la proposición 8 proponen que dicha ley; "es consistente con el propósito central del matrimonio, en California y en cualquier otra parte, para promover relaciones sexuales naturales y procreación y encaminarlas a que sean uniones estables y duraderas, con el motivo de producir y criar la próxima generación." ---Proposición 8

Ya que el matrimonio entre parejas del mismo sexo no para procreación, no debería reconocerse. Este argumento falla, ya que aún bajo la ley en cuestión, parejas estériles se podrán casar.

Los proponentes de Proposición 8 no pudieron demostrar que; “para promover relaciones sexuales naturales y procreativas y encaminarlas a que sean uniones estables y duraderas, con el motivo de producir y criar la próxima generación...” es un interés apremiante del estado.

El Juez Walker concedió por un momento, con motivo de argumentación, que el interés del estado en el matrimonio es de procrear. Luego el Juez preguntó cómo permitir a las parejas del mismo sexo casarse iba a impedir que este interés se cumpla. La defensa primero se rehusó a contestar, pero cuando el Juez lo presionó, la defensa contestó; “honorable Juez, mi respuesta es que no lo sé, NO LO SE.”

A raíz de su incapacidad para contestar, el Juez Walker no tuvo de otra que concluir que "los defensores de Proposición 8 no pudieron hacer su caso porque simplemente no tenían un caso."

“NUNCA el estado ha inquirido en el deseo o capacidad de procreación a la hora de entregar licencias de casamiento.”---Juez Walker

El mismo caso se podría hacer en contra de las parejas de gente mayor, que ya no pueden procrear, sin embargo, ningún líder religioso se atrevería a lanzar una resolución para evitar que se casen.

El Juez Walker estuvo obligado a concluir que, el no permitir que las parejas del mismo sexo se casen no es necesario para cumplir ningún interés apremiante del estado, por lo tanto, viola la clausula “Due Process.”

¿Porqué Prop 8 viola la clausula de Igual Protección?

La clausula de igual protección incluida a la Constitución en su decimocuarta enmienda dice que;

“Ningún estado le negará a ninguna persona dentro de su jurisdicción la igualdad de protección bajo la ley.”

Esta enmienda está para garantizar que toda persona similarmente situada será tratada de la misma forma por la ley.

No significa que el gobierno nunca vaya a tratar a la gente de diferentes formas, pero esta diferencia debe ser, al menos, razonable. (Ej. un criminal cuyo derecho a la libertad es suspendido temporalmente)

Esta clausula se ve en acción en un caso en Massachusetts, Eisenstadts, Sheriff v. Baird, en el cual se retaba una ley que criminalizaba proveer píldoras anti-conceptivas a personas no casadas. La misma fue denominada inconstitucional porque no se pudo demostrar ninguna base racional por la cual las personas no casadas tenían que ser tratadas de diferente forma que las personas casadas. Se demostró que, en todas las formas relevantes al caso, las personas casadas y las no casadas estaban igualmente situadas. Por lo tanto, la ley fue tachada de inconstitucional y fue abolida.

Hay varias pruebas que ha formulado la corte para determinar si una ley viola la clausula de Igualdad de Protección.

-Escrutinio Estricto
-Escrutinio Intermedio
-Revisión de Base Racional

En el caso de Proposición 8, donde la base propuesta para hacer la distinción es orientación sexual y se estipula que, bajo dicha ley, parejas de diferentes sexos pueden casarse, mientras que parejas del mismo sexo no, el gobierno DEBE tener una meta legítima para la cual dicha clasificación está racionalmente relacionada. A esto se le llama la Prueba de Revisión de Base Racional, y es la más débil de todas las pruebas. Dicha prueba siempre termina encontrando que leyes que intentan clasificar a los homosexuales como una clase aparte FALLAN en proveer una base racional para tal clasificación y, por lo tanto, son tachadas de inconstitucional.

El Juez Walker concluye en su decisión que; “Proposición 8 ni siquiera pasa la prueba de Revisión de Base Racional.”

Los proponentes de Proposición 8 argumentan que dicha ley protege los siguientes propósitos del gobierno:

1-Preservar la unión, propósitos y significados tradicionales del matrimonio.
2-Proceder con cautela al implementar cambio social.
3-Promover paternidad de sexo opuesto sobre paternidad del mismo sexo.
4-Proteger la libertad de aquellos que se oponen al matrimonio del mismo sexo.
5-Tratar a las parejas del mismo sexo diferente a las parejas de sexo opuesto.
6-Cualquier otro legítimo propósito concebible.

Vamos a descartarlas una por una:

1-El Juez Walker conluyó que el que se haya mantenido una clasificación por tanto tiempo no hace tal clasificación racional. Este argumento no es más que una tautología. Siempre hemos hecho X, por lo tanto, debemos continuar haciendo X.

2-Los defensores de Proposición 8 argumentan que el otorgarle el derecho a las parejas del mismo sexo casarse significaría un gran cambio social. Sin embargo, el estado de California ya ha casado más de 18,000 parejas del mismo sexo. El Juez concluye que; “permitir que las parejas del mismo se casen será simple para California implementarlo porque ya lo ha hecho.” En el caso de Puerto Rico, donde nunca se ha llevado a cabo un matrimonio homosexual, bastaría con informar que en todos los países donde se ha implementado el matrimonio homosexual, no ha habido ningún cambio social relevante. En Canadá se implementó y, que yo sepa, allí no ha llovido ranas, ni se ha caído el cielo. Tal argumento es absurdo, y se basa en la creencia que habrá castigo de dios si tal cambio se implementa.

3-El Juez Walker brillantemente anotó que Prop 8 no tiene nada que ver con paternidad, la ley no afecta la ley de adopción en California. Bajo Prop 8, parejas del mismo sexo seguirán tendiendo la capacidad de adoptar si así lo desean. Dicha ley es aparte. Más allá de eso, Prop 8 no hace nada para promover que parejas de sexo opuesto se casen y tengan hijos. Parejas de diferente sexo se casarán y tendrán hijos SIN o CON Prop 8. Desconozco si la resolución 107 también afecta la ley de adopción, lo que la haría aún más inconstitucional. Se tiene que probar que este interés es un interés apremiante para el gobierno, y sólo existen bases religiosas para dicho argumento. Toda la supuesta "evidencia" sometida por los proponentes de Prop 8 para argumentar que parejas de igual sexo son más capaces de criar niños que las parejas del mismo sexo NO SOBREVIVIERON el escrutinio.

4-El argumento propuesto por los defensores de Prop 8 es que dicha ley protege su derecho de impedir que parejas del mismo sexo se casen. Ese es un derecho que ellos han tenido el atrevimiento de reclamar. Como si sus creencias ameritaran un lugar especial por encima de los derechos ajenos. Los religiosos tienen el derecho de creer que parejas del mismo sexo no deberían casarse, los religiosos tienen el derecho individual de no reconocer parejas del mismo sexo como “casadas”, tienen el derecho de no creerlo para sí mismos y enseñárselo a sus hijos si lo desean, pero, ¿el derecho de violar los derechos de los demás? ¿Quién se creen que son? Bueno, estos son efectos secundarios de creerse que uno tiene a dios de su lado. Así que el Juez Walker conluye que; “ Prop 8 no afecta ningún derecho garantizado por la 1ra enmienda.”

5-El Juez Walker concluyó que; “la evidencia demuestra de manera conclusiva que perspectivas religiosas y morales forman la única base para la creencia de que parejas del mismo sexo y parejas de igual sexo deben ser vistas de diferente forma." Y como ya es sabido, creencias religiosas privadas no son base ALGUNA para la implementación de leyes en los Estados Unidos.

Ya podemos ver que los proponentes de la resolución 107 se están yendo por esta misma linea, cuando el Representante Norman Ramírez fue citado diciendo;

"Discriminar es tratar distinto dos cosas iguales. Y aquí lo que estamos hablando es matrimonio entre hombre y mujer. Y no estamos discriminando con nadie más, porque todo lo que sea matrimonio entre hombre y mujer está aprobado, y no estamos discriminando contra eso”---Norman Ramírez

Aquí ha cometido un GRAVISIMO error, y ya se le ve la costura de sus argumentos. Como el Juez Walker clara y brillantemente nota, no existe NINGUNA base racional para tratar a las parejas del mismo sexo diferente a las parejas heterosexuales que no sea las posiciones PRIVADAS morales y religiosas.

“El congreso de EE.UU no hará NINGUNA ley respetando el establecimiento de religión...”

6- El Juez Walker concluyó que no hay ningún otro interés gubernamental apremiante para el cual Prop 8 sea esencial.

En conclusión, ES IRRACIONAL tratar a parejas de igual sexo diferente a parejas del mismo sexo con respecto al matrimonio. Están igualmente situadas. Por lo tanto, Prop 8 VIOLA la clausula de Igual Protección. No me cabe la menor duda que los proponentes de la resolución 107 fallarán de igual forma.

Invitamos cordialmente a la derecha religiosa del país a que SAQUE SUS NARICES de donde no tiene que meterlas, y se dedique a lo suyo. De todas formas es INEVITABLE. La tendencia está cambiando, y muy pronto el matrimonio homosexual será legal en Puerto Rico. El miedo y el prejuicio infundido por la derecha religiosa se disipará.

The Ground Zero Mosque

This has been a hot topic in the news these past couple of days. The heated debates have plagued numerous news shows and has brought hundreds of angry Americans to the streets of New York with pretty angry protests. It is no surprise one of the reasons this debate has caught so much fire it's because the two most defined and politically involved groups in American politics are, once again, the main protagonists of the debate. At one side, you have the angry conservatives, at the other, you have the perhaps too tolerating liberals. Naturally, liberals are for the building of the "mosque", while conservatives are strictly against it. For those of you living under a rock, there are plans to build a "mosque" two blocks away from ground zero, hence the name "Ground Zero Mosque."

As an atheist, I often find myself agreeing more with the liberals than with conservatives. I don't consider myself a liberal, precisely because I take my opinions examining each situation within its context without predetermined labels, so I don't like labels. I just think what I think, and if I happen to agree with liberals, great, if I agree with conservatives, that's great too. But because conservatives tend to be full of shit most of the time, and are more identified with Christian fundamentalism, I stay away from the far right, and stay comfortable in the middle, or wherever they decide to position me. In the formation of my opinion, I listened to both sides, because this is a really complicated debate, and it's hard to pick a side. On this blog I will examine both sides of the issue.

Arguments AGAINST the building of the ground zero mosque.

First, I think it's no secrete that Islam is one of the most anti-civilization religions out there. Their religion is pretty much against every advancement our society has made in the past, what?, one hundred years? As a rational person, I simply can't condone the teachings of this harmful religion. It has a doctrine that prohibits basic human liberties, denies women their rights, imposes a death penalty for dissenters of the religion and even commands the faithful to kill infidels. I wish I was "exaggerating" sadly, I am not. You only need to look at the Anti-Blasphemy Resolution presented to the UN to stop its member nations from blaspheming religions, specially Islam. To me it is evident that the fundamentals of Islam threatens our freedom a little more than other religions. I feel that I must make something clear before someone gets the wrong idea. I KNOW not all Muslims are evil terrorists. I'm not a conservative Fox News pundit. I know there are Muslims out there rational enough to understand that these teachings are immoral, and that they CAN'T come from their "loving" god. Therefore, they rationalize them in different ways, non of which are good enough to hide the obvious immorality of the text. This may sound familiar to some because it's exactly what Christians do with their own book.

Perhaps the most threatening principal of all is the clear goal of the religion, which is to dominate the world. And again, if this sounds familiar is because Christianity also has the same goal, with numerous verses predicting that "every nation shall bow to Christ". However, most Christians seem to believe this goal will be accomplished when Jesus returns, therefore, they just have to wait and pray that it happens soon (of course others believe they'll have to take matters into their own hands, and are willing to destroy the world if necessary). But the Qu'ran is more specific, and it constantly commands Muslims to kill infidels and rage wars against non-believers. Once the world is taken over, THEN will Allah return. That's the whole principle behind the Jihad.

These are just arguments AGAINST the religion, but what about against the building of the "mosque". Well, some conservatives, and even atheists (Patt Condell) are ringing alarms that the funding for the construction of the building might be coming from terrorists organizations. Fox News has been the main voice of this concern, but instead of discarding this possibility simply as just another one of their crazy conspiracy theories, let's seriously ask the question, could it be true? After all, the mosque spokesman refused to comment when asked whether or not he would be accepting funding from Iran. However, he did say they would raise funding from other Muslim nations around the world, so the "mosque" being funded, at least in part, by terrorist organizations is pretty possible.

Another argument being thrown out there is that the ground zero "mosque" will represent a "victory" for the Muslim world over Western society. There are a supposedly some clues that led some people to this conclusion. For starters, the "mosque" allegedly overlooks the scene of the 9/11 attacks. The location of the site has caused some suspicion, specially when its developer, Sharif El-Gamal, refuses to build it anywhere else. The second "clue" the people arguing against the "mosque" found is its proposed name. It was formerly called "Cordoba House", which is the name of another mosque in Spain that allegedly symbolized the Muslim victory over the Christian Kingdoms of Spain. When the news that people where making these connections reached the developers of the "mosque", they decided to change its name to Park51 hoping it would end the controversy. Popular atheists, like the previously mentioned Pat Condell, argue that this is in "bad taste", and it's all being done on purpose.

The final argument is a deeply emotionally charged one. It is one that is well represented by this sign:

Perhaps the sign exaggerates a bit, it could even be considered a hyperbole, but it is true that the "mosque" will be built in the name of the same religion which inspired those 9/11 hijackers. And what is worst, who knows if the same organization that orchestrated 9/11 might be indirectly funding this "mosque". It is understandable why it's so hard for these families who lost loved ones that day, are so emotional and deeply hurt by the idea of having a 12 story tall "victory" "mosque" closed to where their loved ones tragically lost their lives. Maybe it's not a victory "mosque", but the mere thought is enough to awake these strong emotions.

Now, let's examine the other side of the coin.

Arguments FOR the Building of the Mosque

First, in regards to the opposition's arguments that the mosque is "over-looking" the Ground Zero, the truth is there are, at least, two buildings completely blocking its way.

Point A represents the "Mosque" Point B represents Ground Zero

So it's not at all accurate to suggest the building "overlooks" ground zero. In fact, when the new WTC rises, the mosque will be overshadowed by it. This seems to contradict that this mosque is a victory "mosque", since they would be stupid to make the tall "mosque" a "symbol" of Muslim conquest when the new and significantly higher World Trade Center will be standing right in front of it. Furthermore, from this map we can see that the "mosque" is not "at" Ground Zero, it is simply "near" Ground Zero. It would be a distortion of reality to say otherwise.

Another thing the people against the building of the mosque seem to ignore is that this is not a mosque, but a community center with a praying room. That alone doesn't qualify it as a mosque, so it's actually inaccurate to call it a "mosque." The reason why I have used the word "mosque" the entire time (accompanied by quotes) is simply because it is shorter than "Muslim Community Center" and because everyone is calling it a mosque, but it is not a mosque. It seems some people do it because everyone is doing it, others do it because is shorter, but others are doing it with the only purpose of fueling the controversy. Moreover, there is already a mosque at Ground Zero, it's even closer to the site, and it has been there before the events of 9/11. Nobody is protesting that mosque.

Perhaps the most devastating argument is the fact that THIS IS AMERICA (yes, Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S. AND is ruled by its constitution, so I get to say that too) and in America we are guaranteed freedom of religion (and freedom FROM religion *wink) by the constitution. It allows individuals to worship the religion of their choosing in their private property. This only addresses the legal aspect of the controversy, but is hypocritical for the Christian right to summon the first amendment when it's convenient for them, and flush it down the toilet when it's not. It's hypocritical for EVERYONE protesting the building of the MCC. How can we defend these rights with our lives when we are the first to hide them under a rug, or deny it to other people when it's not convenient for us? I feel offended whenever a Christian homophobe talks trash on T.V. about the gay community, but I'd defend his right to say it if I have to. That's because, how can I TRULY believe in these rights if I deny them when it's not convenient for me or for my cause? how can I rightfully summon them and be protected by them if anyone can do the same thing to me?

So what if there's a possibility the MCC might be partly funded by terrorist organizations?, so what if some crazy Muslims hiding in a cave see it as a symbol of their "supremacy" over the western world? What difference does it make? Question; has the U.S. been taken over by Muslims? Absolutely no!, then what difference does it make if a few nut jobs think they've done it! Are we so insecure that we are forced to bully a segment of our population and suspend their rights? are we this afraid of terrorists? If so, then they have succeeded in making us doubt the superiority of our philosophy, which is one based on freedom. We are proving time and time again that we don't really believe in democracy or freedom. What's worst, we are giving a poor example to the rest of the world, and presenting a sign of weakness to the real enemy. We are at the point where we are looking at Saudi Arabia as a standard for religious freedom!

CONCLUSION

I'm glad there are plenty of Americans out there willing to defend and fight for our rights, which is the very essence of what America is, and what separates us from the Muslim world. I truly believe Islam and its bronze-age myths have no place in the modern world, and represent a threat to the ideals of America. But suspending their rights to worship their religion is equally threatening. If we do so, then we are no different from the Muslim world, and they've succeeded.

To me, all this misinformation spread by the Christian right and their never-ending efforts to demonize and ultimately wipe off their competition is just salt in the wound for all those 9/11 families. Stop playing with their feelings, and stop distorting the truth!

La Mezquita de Grado Cero

Éste ha sido un tema que ha se tornado bastante popular en las noticias estos últimos días. El acalorado debate ha plagado numerosos noticiarios y ha traído a cientos de estadounidenses enfadados a las calles de Nueva York a protestar. No es sorpresa que una de las razones que este debate se ha tornado tan polémico es por que los dos grupos más definidos y políticamente involucrados en la política estadounidense son, otra vez, los protagonistas principales de este debate. En un lado, tenemos los conservadores enfadados, en el otro, tenemos a quienes los quizá demasiado tolerantes liberales. Naturalmente, los liberales están de acuerdo en la construcción de la "Mezquita", mientras que los conservadores están estrictamente en contra Para aquellos que viven debajo de una roca, hay planes de construir una "mezquita" cerca del sitio del ataque del 9/11, que en inglés se conoce como " Ground Zero " La "mezquita" estaría dos bloques de dicho lugar, razón por la cual se bautizó como "Ground Zero Mosque."

Como ateo, tiendo a coincidir más a menudo con los liberales que con conservadores. No me considero un liberal, precisamente por que tomo mis opiniones analizando cada situación dentro de su contexto sin seguir etiquetas predeterminadas, así que no me gustan las etiquetas. Sólo pienso lo que pienso, y si coincido con liberales, bien, si coincido con conservadores, igual de bien. Pero ya que los conservadores suelen estar llenos de mierda la mayor parte del tiempo, y están más asociados con el cristianismo de derecha, prefiero alejarme de la derecha, y quedarme cómodo en el medio, o donde decidan colocarme. En la formación de mi opinión, escuché ambas partes, por que este es un debate muy complicado y es difícil escoger un lado. En este blog revisaré ambos lados del debate.

Argumentos en contra de la construcción de la "mezquita".

Primero, pienso que no es secreto que el Islam es una de las religiones más anti- civilización allá fuera. Sus enseñanzas están en contra de casi todo el progreso que nuestra sociedad ha hecho en el pasado, ¿qué?, ¿cientos de años? Como una persona racional, no puedo condonar las enseñanzas de esta religión prejuiciosa. La misma sostiene una doctrina que prohíbe las libertades humanas básicas, niega derechos a sus mujeres, impone una pena de muerte para disidentes de la religión y ordena que los seguidores más fieles maten a los infieles. Desearía que estuviera "exagerando", pero tristemente, no lo estoy. Solamente hay que mirar la Resolución Anti- Blasfemia presentada ante la ONU, la que exige a sus naciones miembro a formular leyes que conviertan en un crimen blasfemar contra religiones, especialmente Islam. Para mí es evidente, los fundamentos del Islam amenazan nuestra libertad algo más que otras religiones. Siento que debo dejar algo claro antes de que alguien se haga ideas equivocadas. Sé que no todos los musulmánes son terroristas malvados. No soy un comentarista de noticias de Fox News, sé que hay musulmanes quienes son lo suficientemente racionales para entender que estas enseñanzas son inmorales, y que no pueden venir de su "amoroso" dios. Por lo tanto, justifican estos versos de maneras diferentes, ninguna de las cuáles justifica la inmoralidad obvia del texto. Esto puede parecer familiar para algunos por que esto es exactamente lo que los Cristianos hacen con su propio libro.

Quizás el principio más amenazador de todos es el objetivo claro de la religión, el cuál es dominar al mundo. Y otra vez, si esto parece familiar es por que el Cristianismo también tiene el mismo objetivo, con numerosos versículos prediciendo que "toda nación se arrodillará ante Cristo". Sin embargo, la mayoría de los Cristianos parecen creer que este objetivo será logrado cuando Jesús regrese, por lo tanto, sólo tienen que esperar y rogar que ocurra pronto (por supuesto otros creen que tendrán que tomar acciones propias y son capaces de destruir el mundo si es necesario). Pero el Qu 'ran es más específico, y ordena a los musulmanes a que maten infieles y se levanten guerras contra los no-creyentes. Una vez el mundo haya sido dominado, entonces Allah regresará. Ese es el principio básico detrás del Jihad.

Éstos son sólo argumentos en contra de la religión, pero ¿cuáles son los los argumentos en contra de la construcción de la "Mezquita"?. Bien, algunos conservadores, e incluso ateos (Patt Condell) están sonando alarmas sobre la financiación para la construcción del edificio y si podría venir de organizaciones terroristas. Fox News ha sido la voz principal de esta preocupación, pero en lugar de descartar esta posibilidad como sólo otra de sus descabelladas teorías conspiratorias, preguntémonos seriamente, ¿pudiera ser verdad ? Después de todo, el portavoz de la "mezquita" se negó a hacer comentarios cuando se le preguntó si estaría aceptando financiación de Irán. Sin embargo, anunció que levantarían fondos de otras naciones musulmanes alrededor del mundo, así que la "mezquita" podría estar financiada, por lo menos en parte, por organizaciones terrorista es muy posible.

Otro argumento que han utilizado es que la "mezquita" representará una "victoria" para el mundo musulmán sobre la sociedad occidental. Supuestamente existen algunas pistas que llevaron a algunas personas a esta conclusión. Para empezar, la "mezquita" alegadamente mira sobre el sitio de los ataques del 9/11. La ubicación del sitio ha causado un poco de sospecha, especialmente cuando su desarrollador, Sharif El-Gamal, se niega a cambiar de lugar su proyecto. La segunda "pista" que las personas en contra de la "mezquita" encontraron es su propuesto nombre . Fue llamado "Casa Córdoba", que era el nombre de otra mezquita en España que presuntamente simbolizaba la victoria musulmana sobre los reinos de Cristianos de España. Cuando la noticia que personas estaban haciendo estas conexiones alcanzaron a los desarrolladores de la "mezquita", decidieron cambiar su nombre a Park51 esperarando que terminara la controversia. Ateos conocidos, como el previamente mencionado Pat Condell, argumentan que esto es de "mal gusto" y se está haciendo a propósito.

El alegato final es uno profundamente cargado de emociones. Uno es el que esta bien representado por esta imágen:

Quizás el letrero exagera un poco, hasta podría ser considerado una hipérbole, pero es cierto que la "mezquita" será construida en el nombre de la misma religión que inspiró a esos secuestradores del 9/11 . Y lo que es peor, quién sabe si la misma organización que organizó 9/11 podría estar financiando, al menos en parte, esta "mezquita" indirectamente. Es comprensible el porqué es tan difícil para estas familias que perdieron a seres queridos ese día, tienen tantas emociones envueltas y están tan profundamente lastimados por la idea de tener uno "mezquita de victoria" de 12 pies de altura tan cercano de donde sus seres queridos perdieron sus vidas trágicamente. Tal vez no es una "mezquita de victoria", pero la simple idea es suficiente para despertar estas poderosas emociones .

Ahora, revisemos el otro lado de la moneda.

Argumentos a favor de la construcción de la "mezquita".

Primero, con respecto a los argumentos de la oposición que la mezquita está mirando por encima del área de los ataques del 9/11, la verdad es que hay, por lo menos, dos edificios que bloquean su mirada totalmente.

Así que no es para nada exacto sugerir que el edificio mira sobre dicha área. A decir verdad, cuando el nuevo Centro Mundial de Comercio (CMC) se levante, la "mezquita" estará bajo su sombra. Esto parece contradecir el argumento de que la "mezquita" es una "mezquita de victoria", ya que sería estúpido construir la "mezquita" como un "símbolo" de la conquista musulmana cuando el nuevo CMC será significativamente más alto y estará justo en frente de la "mezquita". Además, con éste mapa podemos ver que la "mezquita" no está "en" el área, sino que está cerca del área. Sería una distorsión de la realidad decir lo contrario.

Otra cosa de la que las personas en contra de la construcción de la mezquita parecen hacer caso omiso es que esto no es una mezquita, sino un centro comunitario con una habitación para orar. Eso solamente no lo convierte en una mezquita así que es en realidad inexacto llamarlo una "mezquita." La razón por qué he usado la palabra "mezquita" todo este tiempo (acompañado de las comillas) es simplemente por que es más breve que "Centro Comunitario Musulmán" y por que todos lo están llamando "mezquita", pero no es una mezquita. Parece que algunas personas lo hacen por que todos lo hacen, otros lo hacen por que es más breve, pero los otros lo están haciendo con el único propósito de aumentar la controversia. Además, ya hay una mezquita aún más cerca del área, y ha estado ahí antes de los eventos del 9/11. Nadie está protestando esa mezquita.

Quizás el argumento más devastador es el hecho de que estamos en América (sí, Puerto Rico es un territorio de los EE.UU.. y es gobernado por su constitución así que puedo decirlo también) y en América somos garantizados la libertad de religión por la constitución. Permite que personas individuales veneren la religión de su elección en su propiedad privada. Esto solamente habla sobre el aspecto legal de la controversia, pero es hipócrita para los cristianos convocar el derecho garantizado por la primera enmienda cuando es conveniente para ellos, y tirarlo por el inodoro cuando no lo es. Es hipócrita para TODOS protestar contra la construcción del MCC. ¿Cómo podemos defender estos derechos con nuestras vidas cuando somos el primero en esconderlo bajo una alfombra, o negarlo a otras personas cuando no es conveniente para nosotros? Yo me siento ofendido siempre que un cristiano homofóbico habla basura en la T.V. sobre la comunidad homosexual, pero defendería su derecho de decirlo si tengo que hacerlo. La razón es por que, ¿cómo puedo realmente creer en estos derechos si soy el primero en negarlos cuando no es conveniente para mí o para mi causa? ¿Cómo puedo convocarlos por derecho y ser protegidos por ellos si alguien puede hacerme lo mismo?

Así que ¿y qué si hay una posibilidad de que el CCM podría ser financiado en parte por organizaciones terrorista? ¿Qué si algunos musulmanes locos escondiendose en una cueva lo ven como un símbolo de su "supremacía" sobre el mundo occidental? ¿Qué diferencia hace? Pregúntate; ¿los EE.UU. han sido conquistados por los musulmanes? ¡Por supuesto que no! Entonces, ¿qué diferencia hace si locos piensan que lo han hecho!? ¿Somos tan inseguros que nos vemos forzados a intimidar un segmento de nuestra población y suspender sus derechos constitucionales?, ¿tan asustados estamos de los terroristas? Si es así, entonces han logrado hacernos dudar la superioridad de nuestra filosofía, la cual es una cuya base es la libertad. Estamos probando una y otra vez que no creemos realmente en la democracia o la libertad. Lo que es peor, estamos dando un mal ejemplo al resto de el mundo, y presentando una señal de debilidad al verdadero enemigo . ¡Hemos llegado al punto que estamos considerando a Arabia Saudita como un modelo de libertad religiosa!

Conclusión
Me alegro de que hay muchos estadounidenses dispuestos a defender y luchar a favor de nuestros derechos, que es la esencia misma de lo que es América y lo que nos separa a nosotros del mundo musulmán. Creo en que el Islam y sus mitos de la edad de bronce no tienen ningún lugar en el mundo moderno, y representan una amenaza para los ideales de América. Pero suspender sus derechos de venerar su religión es igual de amenazador. Si lo hacemos, entonces no somos tan diferente del mundo musulmán, y han tenido éxito.

Para mí, toda esta información errónea difundida por la derecha religiosa y sus esfuerzos interminables de polarizar y, últimamente, deshacerse de su competencia, son sólo sal en la herida para todas aquellas familias del 9/11. ¡Dejen de jugar con sus sentimientos, y dejen de distorsionar la verdad!

¡Qué verguenza! hoy en día las iglesias dejan que las mujeres hablen en las asambleas, ¡QUE BLASFEMIA! las deberían mandar a callar! no tienen porque estar hablando, son mujeres y son propiedad del hombre!!

En la biblia podemos encontrar bellas historias de hombres de fe. Como la historia de Jefté en Jueces 11. Ese gran hombre que hizo un pacto con dios de darle en ofrenda ardiente lo primero que saliera por la puerta a saludarle cuando regresara de la guerra si dios le prometía la victoria, y nuestro todopoderoso y omnisciente Padre aceptó el trato. Y cuando aquella hija de Jefté salió por la puerta a saludarle cuando llegó victorioso de la batalla, Jefté no se dejó llevar por el amor hacia su hija, ni por compasión de ninguna clase. Como prometido, Jefte mató y quemó a su hija en el nombre de nuestro todopoderoso dios, ¡ALELUYA!! Si hubieran más hombres como Jefté, este mundo fuera un mundo mejor!!

Hola a todos! bienvenidos a mi humilde blog PENSAMIENTOS DE UNA MENTE SIN DIOSES. Me llamo "Observador Racional" y, como sugiere mi nombre, estaré vaciando mi mente atea en este pequeño blog que he creado observando asuntos importantes racionalmente. El énfasis de este blog será la religión y toda la mierda que trae enredada. Aunque ese será el enfoque de discusión, también discutiré sobre otras materias de mi interés.

No es un secreto que los ateos son vistos como "servidores del demonio" en la comunidad cristiana en casi todos lados. No es fácil ser un ateo en una comunidad extensamente religiosa. Es normal que nos sintamos solos y frustrados cuando, a cada lado que miramos, la religión asoma su cara. Este blog se enfocará en esa difícil batalla, y como los ateos pueden lidear con los retos más fuertes de la vida, ahora que han decidido abandonar la religión y sus cuentos de hadas.

Desde que somos niños pequeños, se nos ha enseñado a mirar hacia arriba para busca consuelo, guía, fuerza y todo lo demás. Este es el resultado de años de indoctrinación. Desde la niñez nos vienen diciendo que no valemos nada, que somos basura, que no merecemos vivir, que somos sucios pecadores sin esperanza, PERO simplemente por que, dos mil años atrás, alguien fue brutalmente crucificado y su sangre fue derramada, tenemos valor. Sino hubiera sido por él, hubiéramos sido reducidos a...¿qué?...¿pedazos de mierda quemándose en el infierno?...algo así.

No es de sorprender por que es tan difícil romper ese hechizo. La religión intencionalmente destruye cualquier pedazito de integridad y valor que el individuo tiene, y luego la reconstruye de tal forma que ahora la religión se encuentra en su centro. Esta es una poderosa, manipulativa y efectiva técnica que le permite a la religión convertirse en la fibra de la identidad del individuo. Después de todo, el cristianismo debió haber hecho algo bien si ha sobre-vivido por tanto tiempo.

Vivo en un país donde la religión está literalmente en todas partes. NADA puede pasar aquí sin que alguien envuelva a su dios. Las estadísticas de crimen están por los cielos, la corrupción gubernamental ha alcanzado ridículos niveles, una mujer es asesinada por su esposo casi cada mes, las gangas de droga están por todas partes...creo que me entienden. Lo gracioso es que, EN CADA ESQUINA verás una iglesia de alguna denominación. ¿No es irónico que en una sociedad TAN religiosa exista tanto crimen? Y aún así, cuando escucho predicadores hablar en la radio sobre cómo solucionar nuestros problemas, ¿cuál es su solución?....MAS IGLESIAS! Todos deberíamos arrodillarnos y rogarle a SU dios,

Es difícil para un ateo en una cultura tan religiosa encontrar respuestas a sus preguntas. Respuestas que no envuelvan a dios, como; "Dios lo hizo!", "por que Dios lo dice", "por que es Su voluntad". En otras palabras, encontrar significado en la vida que no tenga la etiqueta de "DIOS" puesta. No aceptamos estas respuestas por que nuestra honestidad no nos permite aceptar algo para lo cual no hay evidencia. Preguntas como; "¿Qué hacer cuando muere un ser querido?, ¿Cómo mi vida tiene valor?, ¿Qué es el bien y el mal?, ¿Porqué estamos aquí? Todas estas preguntas tienen respuestas en una visión del mundo atea, y yo haré lo mejor para compartir mis respuestas a estas preguntas.
